Hi folks.
We left Borrego yesterday and did as instructed regarding the test of the exhaust brakes. Worked just fine. Used the manual up and down buttons all the way home. Hardly touched the brakes. Until I went down a 8-10% grade with a stop light in the middle of the grade. I had the tranny in 2nd gear but really needed to stand on the brakes to bring it to a stop. I wasn't sure if The coach would stop in time so I shifted to 1st gear and put more pressure on the brake. Strong smell of hot brakes and a large cloud of black smoke came out the back. Not sure if it was from the engine or brakes.
It did stop in time. Saw another rig pulled over the side of the road. Not sure if he had the same problem.
We are having Camper World replace the tires in a few days but they don't have a technician that is qualified to examine and fix a problem with the brakes. So I will be going to another shop to do the annual service. They claim to be able to check the brakes without taking the wheels off..
