I fall into the "can't worry about everything" camp and a spare falls into that category. To big, to heavy, and I still need to wait for roadside assistance so the gain is minimal. I have better use for bay storage than to carry something I probably will never need.
Two ways to get a flat tire. A blow out and just a leak. If it's just a leak, the TPMS will catch it and I can probably put in more air and continue to a shop or a safe place to stop. A blow out is more of a nuisance but i I look at the probabilities....it's way down the list.
Than, don't forget you have a toad which can be used. Conceivably you could disconnect, take off to a tire store, pick one up and have it ready to install. In the US, even in the "middle of nowhere" really isn't.
100% agree with the above. We've been full-timers for 16 years, travel constantly, love to boondock in the boonies, have traveled to Alaska and have not had a flat.
Yes, it could happen but we're not going to worry about everything that 'could' happen. However, we take very good care of all of our equipment to help prevent things from happening in the first place. We always check our tires before taking off. Even though the tires look good, we replace them at proper intervals and replace all of them at the same time with a 3m. mfg. date of the tire. We use a tire monitoring system. We weigh our motorhome fully loaded with fuel & water and know what the proper tire airing should be. We are very safety conscious. We're also over 70 yr of age and we won't be moving around tires or changing them. We have roadside assistance and will rely on them, if needed. If you use small tires on a small RV and have outside tire storage, then yes, we'd probably carry one but not for our 40' diesel.
