Splitting Exterior

Folks, I have a question regarding a new issue that I'm encountering. There seems to be a vertical crack or split occurring on the exterior plastic skin of my class A motorhome on one side.

What's the recommended way to fix that problem?

Thanks!

Frank

There's also a 3M tape that RV Repair folks are using. It's called a permanent fix as the tape won't come off. KISS RV Repair in Phoenix is going to use it on 2 exterior fiberglass cracks. The guys said they've been using it for over a year with no known failures.

Do you know what the tape is called?

I'll be snagging some photos this week to post.

  • And, the make, model, year and manufacturer is....?

That would help in determining the type of wall structure and material that you might have and therefore help getting some knowledgeable answers regarding your problem.
  • First off you should find out what is causing the vertical crack. That could be caused by a broken truss or stringer on the frame. The fiberglass crack can be fixed fairly easy by a good body and fender shop.
  • Would like to know Make/model and year of the MH

  • That I'm stuck on. Only thing I can think of is the crack does start at the opening of the power cable. So water may have wicked up on the inside a bit - frozen and then split the outer coating.
  • Drill a small hole (1/8" is a good size) at each end of the crack which should stop it from growing. Water proof it with a bit of caulk worked into the crack. RTV works well but can present problems sould the area ever need further rework.

The big problem is what caused the crack and is it going to grow even after drilling?
  • I "assume' you are talking about a split in the fiberglass side?
