Sportsmobile ProMaster prices are out...

This price list shows what SMB is getting for options on the Dodge vans. Here is the Sprinter list for comparison.

What is interesting is that the price gap between the base long body Dodge ($35,864) compared to the LB Sprinter ($41,476) is not that large relatively. These are MSRP prices, so I wonder what the "drive-out" costs would be. I would guess Dodges would have a greater price pressure, assuming more dealers, but that is just a guess. The price difference narrows even more when you move to a diesel engine on the Dodge.

Time will tell. I'm watching this because I like tinkering, and there seems to be a lot of promise with these vans. However, I would say that as of now, if someone wants a "B", buy a Sprinter model. If the prices are too close between vans for the fleet buyers, most "B" makers might just not bother making anything else but Sprinter-based rigs.

*Edited* The option list can change the gap drastically, and options can be very subjective. Also, the ProMaster is a 2014, and 2014 Sprinter pricing isn't set in stone yet, but as stated, likely about 1.5% more than what is on that price sheet.

I do think what will make/break the Dodge model as a class B platform is the OEM cost to upfitters.
  • I find the width on the Promaster interesting. It is listed as 75" for the interior. That means that it would allow for sleeping across and would not be as claustrophobic as the Sprinter. I would expect more variety in floorplans.

  • I guaranty Winnebago will get a better deal on their Promasters when buying in bulk but I would still go Sprinter if that is the difference in price. They are road proven and although the Promaster has made it's bones in Europe, the US version is different than the Europe vrsn.
