Sprinter passenger van shore power

A family member has a 2014 Sprinter passenger van. It has a rooftop AC which we have to let the engine running in order to use the AC. Is there a way to plug into an external power supply (portable generator or shore power) to use the AC overnight? Thanks

  • No expert, but doubt it. I suspect the compressor for the unit is driven by the engine. Is there a roof vent or space for one on the rear section of the roof where you could add a roof mount RV unit? They also make portable AC units you could take with you as needed.

    Ding, ding! Correct answer.
  • If it’s a passenger van, no. Just like your car…compressor is powered by the engine.
