We overnight at Wal-Marts, truck stops, rest areas, casinos, and occasionally a church parking lot if it isn't on a week-end. I see no need to hand over $30 per night at a campground if all I'm going to do is sleep and leave first thing in the morning. Never had a problem with security in any of the above overnight stops.
