I often overnight at a Wal*mart or two when I do my migratory hike (800-1000 miles) spring and fall, or this year summer and fall.
There are several schools of thought.
Campground owners association (A member of said association funds these forums by the way) says RVs should ONLY park in RV parks.. Naturally.
Some RVers do not feel a Wal*mart offers enough security (I have had less in several RV parks, only time I've had to make a police report was a licensed park).
I feel the parking lot is for customers.. So.. I become a customer.
The following is true: One cross country trip I pulled into a truck stop.. Did not get a good feeling and thought I had seen an RV park nearby.. So we refueled the RV and continued down the road.. about a quarter to half mile. 20 bucks for the night, plus the cost of dinner and breakfast "in house" (perhaps 10 bucks between the two of us) v/s what I'd have spent in the truck stop diner (Likely around 40 bucks) and gas for the generator.
Yup, "Free parking" is more expensive in many cases.
Now if I park at a Flying-J.. Well, Gasoline for this beast is custom enough.
