I have had them on both diesel and gas coaches. What the stabilizer does, if adjusted properly, is help eliminate some of the strain on the driver on rough roads or during windy conditions. I prefer the steering stabilizer than can be adjusted from the driver's seat, like the Blue-Ox True Center. And yes, my diesel coach could get blown around in heavy cross winds, just like my gas coach. The adjustable steering stabilizer makes it more manageable and easier on the arms.
