Gas engine HP and diesel engine HP don't necessarily translate to performance. I'm no mechanic so I'll let somebody else tell you more about how that works. I went from a 32 foot gas Class A with the V-10 to a 35 foot DP with a 330 hp cat. I can tell you the 32 footer was faster off the line, but the DP has more power when climbing hills and towing.
But to your original question, I have a 35 foot Tropical, which is made by National RV. Even though I could have originally bought a 38 footer for almost the same price, I stuck with the 35 footer because I wanted the shorter motorhome for easier access to more places. It does have pass through storage and a 100 gallon FW tank as well as a 100 gallon fuel tank. The big fresh water tank was something I specially looked for because I like camping off the grid and with 100 gallons the wife and I can go easily 3 or 4 days without even trying to conserve much water.
