Def tank is located far away from the diesel fill on purpose, to keep the two from accidentally being crossed up. Vehicles like the Ford Transit have the DEF immediately adjacent to the diesel fill, and people cross them up all the time. Causes lots of problems.
Everything I have read, the DEF from Walmart is cheapest and certainly easier to deal with than what you are doing now.
