You may disagree but unless you can show me something that disputes this information I will stand firmly on the side of limiting data access until the infrastructure is improved to allow all you can eat data connections for everyone.
Agreed the technology is only there for a few. It is priced high by design to keep usage at a manageable/sustainable level. If it were made affordable and available to everyone the system would quickly be overloaded and fail.
The OP's issue is related to his location more so than his employers frugal policies. I imagine 95% of the employees have wired internet access available.
