I disagree that the bandwidth is there. The cellular backhaul is going to limit how many users and how much data can be passed through any one tower. If we had unlimited use of these facilities we would all suffer with little or no service due to excessive connections and streaming.
You may disagree but unless you can show me something that disputes this information I will stand firmly on the side of limiting data access until the infrastructure is improved to allow all you can eat data connections for everyone.
Agreed the technology is only there for a few. It is priced high by design to keep usage at a manageable/sustainable level. If it were made affordable and available to everyone the system would quickly be overloaded and fail.
The OP's issue is related to his location more so than his employers frugal policies. I imagine 95% of the employees have wired internet access available.
How is it related to my location ? I have a very strong 4g network. Be nice to have cable but I would need an awful long cable to be portable which is what my entire post was about. And what in the world does this have to do with my employer? Have a wired network I can use at the office. Stop confusing things folks. This is about the ability to stream on a portable device. Period. Seems we've landed on a few things. Technology is there and it's about money , and technology isn't there. I am not sure who's right although I'd bet dollars to donuts on the former and it doesn't really matter cuz it's not practical in any event when the ISPs require a kidney for a fair amount of data. We should close this thread as it's run it's course.
