Hey good folks,
We just got our first diesel pusher and I have a stupid question. When the DP is parked in my driveway and not hooked up to shore power does the generator when going charge up all the batteries?
~Thanks, John
To directly answer your question yes your generator will charge your coach batteries. However running your generator is unnecessary. There is a Walmart in Ephrata. Go get a 50A to 30A or 50A to 15A adapter. If you get a 50A to 30A you will also need a 30A to 15A adapter. Next pick up the heaviest gauge extension cord you can get Some Walmarts carry the 30A RV extension cords and if you can get one of them great they are generally heavy duty and will have a lower voltage drop! This is exactly what I use at home. Next use the 50A to 30A adapter and then the 30A to 15A adapter to plug your coach into a standard wall outlet. This will provide plenty of power to charge your batteries. This will avoid the need to run the generator unnecessarily while you wait. Another thing to note is you will need the adapters I mention above if you do much camping. I have used 15A, 20A, 30A RV, 30A 240V generator NEMA L14-30, & 50A RV to power my RV. As long as you have the correct adapters any of these power sources can work. You would do well to have adapters for the three most common outlet types 15A household (NEMA 5-15 R), 30A RV (NEMA TT-30), & 50A RV (NEMA 14-50) in your RV at all times. It is also a good idea to have at least one extension cord. I actually regretted not having a long enough extension cord on one of our trips. Have fun!
