Sway bars, which one

Two major providers. Hellwig and roadmaster. The mounting points differ on my rig between the two. One requires some drilling, so install will be a little more involved. Price difference is considerable. So, is there really any difference between the two in performance? Please, not just a go with the easier or cheaper, is there a real performance difference.

  • This is what I was looking for. Both bars are 1.5" and pretty much the same bend. Mounting points are about the same, just different fasteners. Roadmaster is $200 more for my needs. Just trying to find out what the extra $ is for.
  • Hi tarnold,

    You ask a good question.

Installed by a shop, we have front and rear Roadmaster bars on our 2007 E350 chassis, and I am very happy with them. I since have helped my brother install a rear Helwig bar on his 1998 E350 chassis. We installed it together and we did NOT have to drill anything. He is happy with his. He has more miles on his than we do with ours.

So there you have my answer....both are great. But knowing what I know today, I would install Helwigs on our rig myself and save the money.

One more point. I did not see any notable difference in the quality of the parts either. The Roadmaster was more colorful, meaningless to me. I actually prefer Helwig's front bar mount better for our particular chassis.

You don't say and profile doesn't indicate what your Chassis is, so about all I can offer is this:

Our Jayco rides on a 2002 Ford E450. Replacing both OEM sway bars, front and rear, with Hellwig bars required NO drilling. I don't have the invoice handy, but I believe I paid about $450 total for the two, about the price of one Roadmaster bar. The Diameter and Steel in the two brands are the same. Mounting systems differ slightly.

Our Hellwig bars have not disappointed in any way. Got ours from SD Truck Springs. Here is their Hellwig RV Sway Bars for Ford Page
  • I have Roadmaster. I would go with Roadmaster for F53 chassis. I didn't have to drill any holes.
