I am like most others. Used a dish on a tripod for a year. Sometimes I got it pretty fast, other times took a very long time.
Bought the Tailgater and it finds the sats and have programs in about 15 minutes after powerup. Has to locate the sats, connect to the sats, and load the program guide, all of which takes a while.
Both of them are dependent on having a clear view of the southern sky. We have been in some sites where I had to look hard to find an opening thru the trees to get signal. But there are smart phone apps to help with that.
There have been some reports of people having problems with the Tailgaters working correctly. But mine has worked fine for 3 yrs now.
