I had the same thing happen to me returning from the Reno Air Races on Hiway 80 east of Auburn a couple years back. The base plate broke, lucky for me, my car has seperate attach points for the safety cable......so I didn't loose the car. What caught my attention is my tow brake system alarm activated. Looked in the monitor and car was still there, so just suspected a wiring problem. But i did pull over immediately. My car looked just like the one in the video........the front end was completely off. I have an 07 Ford Escape Hybrid, and found another person that had the same thing happen...........broke in the exact place as mine. Problem was, there was nothing keeping side to side loads from finally leading to metal fatigue. Blue Ox was great and sent me a new baseplate and they had re enginereed it with a horizontal gusset to strengthen it. I was lucky getting mine fixed. Drove the car to a welder, he welded the base plate back on with a doubler........was easy to get to, since the front end of the car was being carried in the back of the car now. Drove back to the motorhome, hooked up and was back on the road in just a couple of hours.
