Termites in dump compartment

Unbelievable, I think I know how they got there.
In the holding tank valve compartment, on top of the valve exit pvc was a small pile of termite droppings. Seen it once before.
I believe coming from the bathroom floor above. Only place I have seen the droppings.
Before I call the termite folks. Anyone experienced this before.
They have become active, I dumped a week ago and no sign of them.
At an RV park now, dumped this AM and found a decent amount.

  • If you are seeing a "dropping" that looks kind of like coffee grains in a little pile, you MIGHT have the species of Drywood Termites. They can "come & go."

To confirm, take some droppings to the local Agricultural Extension office for a positive I.D. (Usually free and unbiased) There are other insects that leave a similar dropping so identification is critical.

If they are Drywood Termites, the chance of do it yourself treatment are very low and ill advised. The problem is this species remains hidden deep in the wood and if found in one location are often hidden in other locations you will never find until the wood collapses.

You can use heat or fumigation. The most common occupancy time is 72 hours, although by adjusting the dosage,(and increasing the cost) it can be completed in as little as 12 hours.

I am also very familiar with the heat method also, and I have to say I would not use heat if it were my RV.
  • I read where they are now killing termites with heat. Tent your house bring the heat up to 150 degrees. Can be done in one day no need to stay out of the house for a few days like when they use gas. Tent your RV
  • Another option is to travel to an area with freezing temperatures for a week. The cold will kill off the nest.
  • Home Depot caries termite insecticide which is OK IF you can put it on EVERY place where the termites are feeding. If there are hidden termites, you may have a bigger problem.
