When I was looking to get into an airplane, I wanted to partner to keep the costs down. I was planning to fly quite a bit to build hours, but still couldn't justify owning myself vs. renting.
One tactic I used was to go around to the local airports and find the "ramp queens" - those planes that just sat on the ramp not getting much use. I called a few owners of these under-utilized planes and found that they would rather have the planes sit than let a low time pilot partner. I guess I understand that now, but at the time it was nonsense to me.
As with all things mechanical, planes and RVs want to be used.
