I also admire older coaches, and hope to keep this one for another 10 years at least. I really see no reason to upgrade, as I cannot find a new motor home that meets my specifications at a price I can (or want to) afford.
Full Body paint or Gel Coat has done wonders for the longevity of these coaches in my opinion. Now the paint is as easy as your car to care for.
In my OPINION, the crappy peel and stick graphics and non gel coated sides are what makes even a 4 or 5 year old RV look old and worn out. Look around at most of the fifth wheels and trailers made today. Crappy Peel and Stick graphics that make it about 3 years, then start peeling off in the sun, and non gel coated fiberglass so the exterior is dull. Looks like junk in 3-5 years.
Fiberglass roofs vs Rubber roofs are another reason. There is no scheduled replacement period on a fiberglass roof.
A motorhome is more of an investment, as you can keep them long term. Real Wood Cabinets, Real Tile floors, Upscale Furniture, beautiful paint jobs, etc. These things never look old or go out of style unless badly neglected.
