We have had RV's since 1967, and motorhomes since 1981 when we bought a used GMC motorhome. For the past 14 years we have owned 2 40' motorhomes. LAst spring we downsized, not to a trailer, but to a 34' motorhome. We went from a 40' Revolution LE to a 34' Ventana LE. That is a significant change. We took a 7 week trip in it this summer with our two dogs and two cats, and loved it. I appreciate the increased mobility, easier maneuvering etc., and we both are amazed at the room inside. My wife didn't want to give up her 4 door Norcold refrigerator or her washer dryer, and she didn't have to, so she is happy.
Anyway, only you two can decide if you are ready to downsize. With today's slideouts, smaller RV's seem much larger inside. When I was younger I could not understand why someone would have a 30' to 35' RV when they could have a 40' or even a 45' unit. As I get older though, I seriously wonder about my previous thinking. I can get in places and campgrounds that I wouldn't have even thought of with the bigger units. So there are merits whichever way you go.
