Yes I see your point, especially regarding ill health, that is something I really hadn't thought of! Intellectually we know that can happen but its not easy when we know we're pure in our body and mind... Oh my gosh look at that, dementia! :)
My wife and I have considered buying a small place and renting it while we travel and recognize that can bring in a brand new set of problems. I know some that have done it quite successfully while others, Oh mamma!
A lot to think about and a lot of due-diligence to perform but the one overriding theme is "walk don't run"! Anyone knowing that song don't let anyone know about it especially your grandkids, they know dementia when they see. The little kreeps! :)
