I had replied to 2gypsies earlier, but it was deleted for some reason so I'll try again. Thanks for the info, you covered some things I didn't know. On my reasoning for wanting to keep a house as a rental is a hedge on inflation. Real estate is likely to do better than most other investments (maybe) and I would pick a place that I could live in, but that doesn't necessarily mean I would. If I wanted to get back into a regular home from the motorhome you can always sell the rental and buy something else. I'm in California and once you get out of the market here, it can be hard to get back in especially if prices recover.
