Thor house batteries

Any idea what Thor is using for house batteries these days. Our Axis 24.1 came with two unknown brand grp 27's that maybe are deep cycle or maybe have a RC of 160 amps. No other information on the things.

  • The solar energy folks use all kinds of combinations of parallel and series to come up with the voltages and amp they want for the application. I as a Fire alarm tech, with a BASA and FASA card, do it to keep my fire panels happy every day. All my fire panels use a gel base, sealed acid battery.

For my 2013 ACE 30.1, the information is as follows: Coach Batteries:
    Harris 27D170 / reserve capacity 160 minutes @ 25 amps
http://www.harrisbattery.com/products/battery/flooded-lead-acid/27d170. Incidentally, at a .4167 conversion factor, that would produce an AH rating = 66.67.

I have no idea what the comment is about batteries in parallel. Absent some basis for the comment, I'd ignore it.

That's about what I came up with. As for the parallel 12 volt battery comment....that's blowing smoke. We had series/parallel battery banks to provide 125 Vdc as a back up for cranking the gas turbines at the power plant I worked at.

    Nothing in Parallel....
Lead/Acid batteries often do not play nicely in Parallel.
A pair of decent golt card batteries in series will serve you much better.

As long as the batteries are all brand new/same age when installed, there is nothing wrong with going Parallel. Now, if you have different age batteries, then YES, you will have problems. Doug

A statement not based in fact and not worthy of any concern.
  • Our MH came with Harris batteries for the chassis. This Spring they seemed a bit weak so I replaced them with (2) new Exides.

The Harris batteries weren't dead by any stretch so I put them in a tractor I was painting. They're still going strong today.

Not bad for a 9 year old no name battery.

  • my DP has (2) 12v in parallel for the chassis (factory standard)
and i have (5) 12 AGM in parallel for the house

once you get (4) 6v, you have parallel 12v, broken up into (2)pieces for each battery

MMMMM All diesel pushers I know of have two 12 volt in parallel for start, seem to work fine together. One heck of a lot of C's run two deep cycle 12 in parallel for house. Most DP run two pair of 6 volt in parallel, making two big batteries in 12 volt they work fine together. Guess all the ones I've had through the years don't play nice together.
To the OP I might just call Thor and ask.

Not only your diesel pusher! My Ford pickup with the International diesel has two batteries in parallel, and my Thor motorhome has three deep cycle batteries in parallel.
As far as I know, all of those batteries are of the lead acid version.

How else would you create a battery bank?
