Thor v Nexus

I'm comparing the F550 35' Thor to the Navstar Nexus. Do any of you have any points you'd like a new RV owner to know regarding these units?

I'd prefer going with something like the Jayco Embark with a Cummings ISC; but I can't afford the extra $50-75k to get there.

Here are some points I've been able to notice on my own:
The CC of the Thor is, as I understand, 1,200 lbs, the Nexus 3,000.
The Navstar cockpit is much prettier and much better equipped than the Ford 550.
For your extra $20+k over the Thor, the Nexus gives you slides, more CC, steel construction, and a fiberglass roof.
The Thor has a larger (more counter space) to work with than the Nexus.
The Thor lets you have a propane oven ILO having to learn to cook w/ a convection.
The Nexus A/C is ducted; I don't think the Thor is.
It looks on the screen like it's harder to get out of the cockpit on the Ford than it is on the Navstar; the step up is not as high.
The Ford 550 comes with 22.5" wheels vs 19" on the Navstar; I like the extra road clearance.
The added height for the Thor using bigger wheels and spacers between the chassis rails and the floor, create higher storage bays than the Nexus.
The Thor's storage bays are made of a lighter composite with drain plugs for easy cleanout; the Nexus uses std galvanized steel w/ no plugs.
Based on my research on the internet, miles per gallon between the two engines and chassis are so close that it's not a distinguishing point.
The Nexus inverter is larger than the Thor's.

Thanks for you time in responding.

    Two things:

    1. I'm pretty sure the CCC on the Thor is higher than 1200lbs, but I will double check when I get home from work tonight.

    2. The Thor (F550 chassis) has 19.5" wheels, not 22.5"
  • Have never owned either one, but it seems like a no brainer - Nexus. Remember that Nexus will make adjustments to the interior, so the propane oven should not be a problem.
  • I have NOT OWNED a Thor or Nexus, but based on the Thor rvs I have looked at in dealers lots and rv shows, Thor fit and finish can be sloppy. You should also do a search on the forums for Thor to get more information. I would think a custom build like Nexus would give you better quality and whatever options you want. If you are leaning to Nexus, also look at Phoenix Cruiser which is located near Nexus in Indiana.
