You've answered your own question and if you throw your money away on big brand names, then you won't have any left for rum and whereas you can actually taste the difference in some cases, minus the coke.
Then again, try putting 10 different beers in front of someone who will swear by a certain brand. IMO, if it has a DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION number on it (DOT), then it's good to go.
