Michelin recommends tire inspection every year after 5 year of age. Inspection involves removing tire from the rim. If they pass inspection from 5 to 10 years Michelin recommends replace when they are 10 years old.
Note, "tread life remaining" means nothing.
My tires were late 2004. I replaced all 6 Michelins in late Dec. 2012. They had 24,000 miles on them.
The problem with trying to eek out a few more years is that collateral damage caused by a tire failure may cost much more that 6 new tires.
If I were you, from what you stated, I would consider replacing them in 2014.
