Thanks for the guidance Ichabod, one more questions for you since you've got the same chassis:
On my last trip, the engine temp had me a little concerned. I don't remember the gage numbers, but on a cool morning running at 60, it stayed pegged on the middle hash mark. In the afternoon, as the outside temp got up to maybe 90, the engine temp slowly rose a tick or two. Going up a hill for a mile or two, and holding roughly the same engine RPM, the temp went well above 3/4 and one time even into the red - the check gages light came on.
This doesn't seem normal to me, I'm used to other tow vehicles having steady temps. Does your temp fluctuate much? My first thought is that the fan clutch is bad but I haven't checked it out yet.
