TMC Safety Recall Notice - 13V-164

I just received this notice. It appears some power awnings may have a certain electric motor that is subject to damage and may result in the awning unfurling unexpectedly.

I'll post what my service department advises after I have an opportunity to speak with them. In the meantime, no further trips until this issue is resolved.

Why not just yank the fuse to the motor and go camping?

  • Am most interested in what the repair shop suggests for you. I have the same Chateau, and will not use it until I know if mine motor has the same issue. Mine is a 2012
  • A&E awnings have some motors that were manufactured early 2013 that fail unexpectedly and let the awning unroll with catastrophic results. It must be taken to the dealer to have the motor assembly replaced before using the RV.
Can't tell from looking at the exterior if it is an affected unit or not. If possible place some large wire ties around the arms near the top to help prevent it from opening and hitting someone as they come down with quite a bit of force. Although this will not prevent the fabric from unrolling while driving and causing damage to awning assembly or RV.
