We only make reservations for weekends (Fri and Sat), holidays or popular tourist areas. Otherwise we stop early 3-4pm and haven't had a problem getting sites. We do call ahead the same day to see if they have vacancies, especially if the park is more than a mile or two off the highway so we don't waste fuel. We prefer hookups so we can use the AC, take showers, cook. We stop early, get settled in and go sight see, have a beverage and dinner and relax! If you are on a short time schedule and want to drive longer, call the campground and find out what time the office closes and arrive before then. Parking lot stops is not our preference unless we have no other option. May people don't mind it. Just your preference.
