I wouldn't run the jeep while towing, hours of idling won't do it any good.
You could also run a charging line from the motorhome to keep the toad battery up.
We used to tow a Chevy Tracker and used a Brake Buddy and had the same problem. We just put the battery charger on every few days.

Using the coach's alternator to keep the toad's battery charged is the best option.
Oddly enough, several years ago while at gas station, I talked to the owner of a Lincoln Town Car that was being towed with the engine running. The owner told me idling the engine had worked fine and "didn't use that much gas". Hard to believe, but he accomplished what he wanted to do without having the car modified.
So, you can run the engine if you wish, although I wouldn't do it.
