Hello all,I'm about to moving down to Miami in my Class A motorhome pulling an uhaul auto transport trailer with a prius on it. I have an EZPass on the Prius. I was reading where some though an ezpass worked in florida or did not work. What about the RV how much are tolls in Florida traveling from Alabama down to Miami? and is there a different fee for the trailer? Can you pay with a card or does it have to be cash? and would I be paying for both the RV and the Car? or the rv car and trailer? Have to ask that because we are traveling on PCS orders using the government travel card so need to know in advance.Sorry for so many questions we didn't think about that until now with all the other things going on while trying to PCS down to Miami we totally forgot about this important bit of information.Thanks in advance for your responses.SGM And Mrs B

You pay for the motorhome and the trailer. Most toll plazas are Sunpass or toll by plate, they send you a bill in the mail. There is an additional fee for toll by plate. You can go to the Sunpass website. Enter the vehicle and trailer info then map your route. It will show the tolls for your route. Not sure if Ezpass is recognized in Fl but that should also be on the Sunpass site.

Count the number of axles of the combined vehicles and that's what you pay. You will be charged like a tractor-trailer. Get the SunPass (or whatever) but you must get it for the combination and not just one or the other. Not sure where you are moving from but it does not sound like FL. If that's true then you EZ Pass will not work either when you get where you are going and want to drive the toll roads in your Prius.This might help:https://www.sunpass.com/index

If you want and you have time you can get a Sun Pass transponder that you can use on multiple vehicles. Order it online, and I think it is a week or so delivery. You preload funds on it, can link to your debit/credit card if you want. If you drive with the Class A and trailer, it will automatically deduct the right amount, based on the number of axles. You don't have to have one for each. The portable transponder can be used with any vehicle.Mike

41, Tamiami Trail is 2 lanes, 1 each way for quite a ways. Running through Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve. It's not a bad road but it's not a freeway. At night, forget it. No lights and reduced speed limit due to wildlife, panthers, on the road. There are sensors along the road that detect when wildlife is on the road. Signs flash to warn drivers and the speed limit is reduced. As I said, not a bad road but don't know if you want to cross the state in a motorhome, pulling a trailer on it and definitely not at night. I-75 across is a better option.

There is 1 toll on 75 crossing alligator alley. It is about 1/2 way across at State Road 93 and 75.
No tolls I know of on 41 though, or can remember.

Yes. No tolls on 75. (Edit: Oops maybe one. see next post)

BUT....taking 75 all the way to Miami is WAY out of the way.
Better to go across on I-10 to I-95 and then stay on that all the way south.

But it is relatively easy to get on a toll road along there by accident so my advice is to carry enough cash to care for that possibility.

Once you get into Miami, Dade County, there are NO CASH LANES and if you don't have a transponder (SunPass only at this time) they will bill you by license plate......if you do accidentally get on one of their toll roads.

You likely will want a SunPass while you are there but no need to worry about that on your first trip. They are working on an "agreement" with EZ Pass but at the rate they are going, that might take 10 years. So far it only works with Georgia.

Years ago, coming back from Key West, we stopped at (what I think was) Gator Park. IF this is the same place, they have a very large grassy field for DRY camping. The offer an alligator restaurant and an airboat tour of the Everglades. VERY interesting. Great for an afternoon/nite stopover.

From Alabama go south to get on I-10 east to Jacksonville. In Jax get on I-95 south. DO NOT GET OFF I-95. NO tolls all the way. I-95 parallels east of the toll road all the way. Ends at Hwy 1, also no toll road. It goes all the way to Key West. If you do take a toll road it is figured on your axels on the ground. Our motor home has 6 tires but only 2 axels and the Jeep has 2 axels. We get charged for 4 axels.

Traveling on I 75 you will not have any tolls. If you get off of I75 at 951 (Naples exit ) which is the last exit before Alligator Alley ( Toll as you get on the alley). Go west on 951 to Rt 41 then go south on Rt 41 again no tolls and head south toward Miami. Not sure from 41 how you get to your final destination but that route will not have any tolls. Again, no tolls on I 75 or route 41.

Sunpass in your car will work at airports parking also. We hate toll roads and I lived in Ok and would drive old 66 any day before paying. Hard to do from MCO-MIA. Guess you could go over to 95. I don't know that one can get to MCO without paying a toll.

Depending on what roads you are using to enter Florida you could stop and get a sunpass fob at a number of locations and activate it with your smart phone before you get on a toll road. If you have time you can also go the route Walaby suggested.
