I had one of those when I used to go Snipe hunting. Worked great!
He he he....I wonder if today's kids know about snipe hunting????
Hey I was a Navy Snipe..why you want to go hunting me for?
That deal is too good for it to be true unless it was only used every 2nd Sunday by a little old lady
I was in the Navy too and know about the snipes...they had hard jobs...but most people aren't aware of you guys and gals.
Three distinct groups on our destroyer
1) Twidgets......need fresh air and air conditioning to survive
2) Snipes........can't tolerate direct sunlight, get nose bleeds above waterline and use machine oil in their coffee
3) Deck Apes.....knuckle draggers that painted everything that didn't move. If it moved they secured it and then painted it
I was not in the service but my father was. He was a 'Tin Can Man' aboard the USS Wadleigh, DD689 during the Korean war. he would have been considered a Snipe in his job in the engine room.
I once asked him if he was a 'Shellback' to which he said "yes". I then asked him what he had to do (besides crossing the equator) to become that to which he said "You go find out for yourself!" Needless to say probably, but I am still a 'Pollywog'!
Thanks all for serving so we may have fun with forums like this and so we may enjoy each others company as free men and women!
