there is a restaurant called Tortilla Flats east of phoenix...actually it is much closer to apache junction, az. very popular so i doubt its been closed but anything is possible. the nearest camoground to Tortilla Flats is at Canyon Lake. - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIITo clarify... there is a State Campground, Tortilla Flats, that was closed due to budgetary considerations several years ago. It is extremely vertical and the sites are small but some of the views are worth your time.
The CG obviously remained in place and I would love to hear confirmation that it is now reopened. Tortilla Flats is just east of the CG in question and while not much more than a wide spot in an already skinny road, it is a lot of fun. The local bar/burger joint is a hoot featuring saddles instead of barstools and they have some of the finest Chile on the planet.
The best CG nearby is Lost Dutchman SP, been there many times. Both are just outside of Apache Junction. As noted there is a CG at Canyon Lake but it is obscenely overpriced {just a parking lot and not much else}.
:C - darsben1ExplorerIt is still closed unless it has opened within the last 10 days it was a Forest service Cg
Try the Lost Dutchman state park.
Very nice park - jerseyjimExplorerJust a few miles from Apache Junction AZ. NOT a campground, but perhaps a wild west ghost town attitude. a nice ride thru the desert. Last time we were there, good food, interesting stores and a great band...great music and lots of fun.
At least that is the only Tortilla Flats I'm familiar with.
