Right now I am having a similar problem with my Explorer's AC. The compressor quits for awhile (fan is still working) then the compressor comes back on. I am told that this indicates it is low on refrigerant due to a leak (it has been recharged twice but leaks each time). Because the refrigerant is low the unit begins to overheat trying to cool the air, then there is an overheat sensor relay that shuts off the compressor until the unit cools down. The only solution is a recharge.
However, I understand that these RV AC's cannot be recharged. Perhaps you can search the tech section for AC to check on this.
