I always have the DW to gently back up which snaps the lock into place. .
I do it the same way. Many times, one side will lock in and the other will not. If this happens, just get in the motorhome and turn the wheel sharply toward the side that is NOT locked in. Pull forward just a tiny bit...inches to a foot. That locks the other side in.
That's what usually happens to me - one side locks in the other side doesn't. Turning the coach toward the unlock side does work but it seems to take more than a couple of feet.
