Tow capacity

Diane and I plan to buy an RV motorhome Class A. Very new to this venture and experience. We need your help. The tow capacity of the Class A Motorhomes vary from bus to bus. My question is, is the rating based on the transmission, rear end gear ratio or specifically related to the hitch and its strength. We have a 2008 vacationer Holiday Rambler Excel Kama 34 feet by Monaco. Tow capacity I believe is 5000 pounds. We would very much like to tow a 2013 Ford F 150 4 by 4 along with the Harley in the back end. That should be somewhere in the vicinity of 7500 pounds. Therefore, is it the hitch, rear end, gear ratio, this particular bus is a 325hp Diesel Pusher. Thank you and we'll probably see you out there sometime once we get this on the road. Thank you for your help

"We HAVE a 08 ..............." It's too late to go bigger. 50 percent over hitch rating is not going to work.
  • With that kind of weight, you need a big MH. Preferable with a tag, as that helps stabilize the rear of the MH from pushing from the toad.

I am NOT weight police, but you are a LOT over the tow limit of the MH you posted. Go bigger.
  • You'll need to do a bit of home work to ensure the coach you acquire can safety perform what you are demanding. Towing a full size pickup with a heavy bike in the bed pretty much pushes you into diesel territory. Search for a coach with an Allison 30000 transmission then check available combined weight capacity. The weight sticker on the hitch is no guarantee a coach can actually tow that much. You have to run the weight numbers.
  • the amount of weight you can safely tow will be the lesser of the following:

    - the gross combination weight rating of the MH minus the actual weight of the MH as it is loaded and configured fir travel

    - the weight rating of your hitch

    - the weight rating of your tow bar
  • Everything you mention plus brakes. So you have purchase or are you planning to purchase. With over 2500 lbs over the rated hitch you are starting out in trouble. Need some more info.
