Great information, now I have another question, tow bars, I have seen some with couplers and some with straight bars, what's the difference other than the way they look? is one better than the other?
Not sure what you mean by couplers v straight bars.
There are several decent brands out there, none of which I have heard bad things about. Some have integrated, mechanical surge brakes (ready brute elite) which are a little more expensive than standard bars, but they incorporate the brake into the bars so there is no extra equipment to buy or install every time you want to tow. Hook and go.
If you want to tow 4 down, you need to see if your vehicle can be towed that way, buy and install base plates for it, buy bars that are compatible, get a brake system (unless you buy bars with it integrated) and hook up some sort of lights. There are all kinds of light kits and even wireless ones now to take the headache out of running them.
If you do the work yourself you can save a bunch of money on base plate install on the vehicle. Some vehicles are easier than others. I hear Jeeps are really easy to attach base plates to. Our CRV was a little more challenging but I managed it in about 6 hrs.
