Let's see...
My flatbed trailer (18 ft. 7000 GVWR)that I used to have cost $2295 brand new.
Title and license plate, about $200 for a PERMANENT registration (no renewal required for as long as I owned it). To comply with Montana law, it had brakes on all four wheels, a breakaway braking system, and safety chains.
A new American Tow Dolly with electric brakes and self contained brake controller would cost a little less than $1500 delivered to my door, ready to use.
A new Demco Kar Kaddy dolly with electric brakes will cost over $4000 at a local dealer.
There are advantages and disadvantages to all three methods; trailer, dolly, and four down. I have done all three, and I can't say that any one was easier or better than the others.
The bottom line is, it is purely personal choice.
Good luck.
