  • 1: what's the rv hitch rated for?
2 : tow capacity of MH?
3: Gross combined weight rating ( MH & Toad)?

Do you know you capacities? Have you weighed your coach? If your over on any of the above your answer would be clear.
  • We're headed out on a long trip this summer and I just didn't want to tow my Silverado. I bought a 2013 Honda CRV which makes a nice little tow car, commuter and is plenty big for four adults. The weight is about 3500 pounds.
  • NMace, most 4wd if it has a neutral in the tcase can be flat towed. No issues is subjective as some have problems with battery draining etc. I towed a 2015 GMC without issue but had to disconnect the battery. They all have there little quirks.
  • thanks for all your input....looks like i am in the market for a towable
vehicle.. jeep would work great...again thanks for clearing my head
  • That truck weighs around 5500+ pounds....I tow a 2012 Silverado. I think you bought more truck than your MH will handle. I've never seen a hitch on the newer Ford chassis' that was rated for over 5000 pounds. Even if you upgrade your hitch, I think you're going to have overheating issues and will be really pushing that MH chassis on grades.
  • I think you may find the truck weighs a bit more than 5000#. A friend says his is about 5200_5300 lbs. I have never weighed mine but believe the standard truck is sbout 5000 lbs plus additional weight for upgraded size engine, skid plates and any options beyond the standard. Also I think you might not have a hitch on your RV rated for more than 5000#. Some RV'S that size may even have a hitch rated for less than 5000 lbs. No matter if everything is rated for 5000 lbs I think you are, at best, right on the margin. Suggest check motor home capacity, hitch capacity and weigh your truck to make sure where you are.
  • You need to determine the weight you can tow...the lower of:

    1. Coach's hitch rating.

    2. Coach tow rating.

    3. Chassis tow rating (sometimes different than the coach's).

    4. The difference in weight between the coach's GCWR and the coach's actual weight when ready to tow.
