Here's my take (as someone who's done a LOT of towing with large trailers): as the weight of the trailer approaches your vehicle weight (my Transit van weighs around 5800 lbs), you want some serious wheelbase length so you don't get the tail wagging the dog. New trucks have all sorts of anti-sway features built into the towing packages - your Dodge won't have that. Your trailer hitch is probably rated for #5000 and less hitch weight than your trailer. Unless it was a very short distance you could cover via backroads; I wouldn't do it.
