I noticed that some toy haulers have enough room in the toy section for a Smart Car. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who carries a car in their toy hauler motorhome and how this has worked out. Is there a problem with tie down or ramp clearance? Thor's new Outlaw has a carrying capacity in the toy area of 2500 lbs but I do not see a weight limit for the ramp.

Howdy!Can't help with a Class A TH but we due have a Cyclone 4000 TH that we carry a Smart Car in. No problems with weight as the Smart Car weights about 1700 lbs. The ramp on ours handles the weight just fine and is rated well above that. Once the Smart Car is loaded we have no problems inside the TH area able to open the door and get out of the car and even walk totally around the car. We use the D rings mounted in the TH to secure the Smart Car druing travels using ratchet straps through the front and rear wheels."Happy Trails"Chiefneon

I just purchased a Newmar 3921. (Be sure and look at this coach before purchasing an Outlaw). I have not tried to fit a smart car but the ramp door and tiedowns are more than enough to handle it. My only concern would be the angle at the top of the ramp if the ground behind the rig slops down.

broccoli2.....The angle at the top of the ramp was also a concern of minechiefneon.... Is the clearance for your Smart Car tight at the top of the ramp?I wonder if the height of the toy hauler entrance is lower on a 5er than a motorhome.

I would think if you were on level ground you would be fine.

I just sold my 5th wheel Toy Hauler and it's not that big of a difference as a matter of fact I think it's better on the Newmar

The ramp door on this Newmar is curved to make up some of the angle. see photos below

I think that is called a "beaver tail" door. Great idea to assist with clearance of the under carriage of vehicles.

I don't know how old that you want to go but the Monaco Safari Simba had diesel coaches with a hydraulic rear lift with a 3300 pound capacity. Options included THREE queen sized beds with two of them bunk style back in the garage. Here is a brochure and I believe these were made up until 2010. Safari Simba toy hauler

you might be right. In my Toyhauler the rear 3 feet of the floor sloped down to meat the door at a lower angel and I know that when the actual floor of the trailer is sloped it is called a "Beaver Tail".

broccili2, In the picture of the Newmar you posted there is a set of jacks/stand under the ramp that look quite helpful. Anyone know if that setup comes with specific units or is it aftermarket? I have yet to put anything heavy up my ramp, but it seems like a support might be needed.

Pine, That is my actual rig. and those are not jack stands. That is the ladder sitting on its side. It is not touching the ramp. I would have no concerns driving any small vehicle up the ramp. It can handle 3000 pounds easy..
