So, you are on 50 amp shore power (only way to have 240 VAC). And, you have confirmed polarity:
50 amp shore power outlet:
Each outer straight= hot
Center straight= neutral
Center round= ground
SO:
Either outer to either center straight or center round= 120 VAC
Outer straight to outer straight= 240 VAC
Center round to center straight= 0 VAC
What breaker is tripped?
