I think 230 F. is the hottest that transmissions can endure on an ongoing scenario. Regular Dextron will not live well with anything above this, but preferably 200/210 for good oil life. Allison's Transyn is cable of much higher temperatures however the transmission may not be.
My tranny operates between 174 and 205. In rain it reads lower and in dry hot weather at high speeds the higher temps are experienced.
