Transporting propane tank

I have a 2005 Coachmen Mirada MH. I had an extend a tank fitting installed in the propane line. My question is: How do you safely carry the extra propane tank when you have just the MH?

Thanks.

Personally, I just make sure the valve is closed tight and place it upright in the cargo bin down below. There are no openings other than the door but, frankly, how is this any different than putting it in a trunk or the back of an SUV to take it and have it filled? I think the reason the on-board tank is in an open area is because it's pretty much installed and forgotten. Your portable tank comes out when you land and is seen often.

Hopefully, I won't get taken to task for doing it wrong. Then again, If I've been causing a danger, I suppose I'd like to know.

Why is it different??? Because you take it and get it filled and then go HOME and unload it from the trunk. You do NOT drive around for days or weeks with it in your trunk. It is NOT a good idea to store a DOT cylinder in any closed storage area of an RV. PERIOD. While it is done, it is not safe. IF it leaks, it could cause a serious problem as you will have certain electrical components in that storage area that could ignite leaked LP gas. Since it is in a SEALED storage, there is no place for the LP to go to except stay there. Doug

  • Ideally, you'll minimally follow the same precautions that the manufacturer of your RV also followed:

    1. If the cylinder is in a compartment, then that compartment must be open at the bottom or completely at one side.

    2. The cylinder is upright.

  • Strap it down in one of the bins so it doesn't fall over. Keep the valve protected. Not much different than your on-board tank except that it's portable.
