If you are going to be in Reno,NV why don't you drive south on 395 to Lee Vining and take 120 over Tioga pass to Yosemite.
You can then head for the Pacific coast and take 101 North through San Francisco, Napa Valley , the Redwoods, Crescent City and then Oregon and Washington.
