If you like Astronomical things that are unique then you might find it worthwhile to view an event that hasn't taken place in the US for something like 99 years. If you are not a fan of horse racing you might not want to go the Churchill Downs to watch the 2 most exciting minutes in horse racing but that does not make the people that drive a great distance and pay a huge fee wrong to have done so.
I will be driving to see the eclipse. I only wish I was somewhere out West where there is a much better likelihood that the skies will be clear then they will be clear in SC. If the weather forecast is bad for that day in SC then we will likely stay home.
If you have seen a total eclipse, you would understand why it's not like viewing a partial eclipse.
