There are several farms/ranches around here that are opening up their fields for people to camp in. I suspect the response has not been as great as originally anticipated because most of them have dropped their prices. One close to me was originally asking $400 for 4 nights of tent camping and $800 for the same time with an RV. I looked at their website and counted the spaces they had allocated. I figured if they filled up they would make $312,000 for the 4 days. The news is still projecting about 200,000 visitors in our area. For a town of less than 10,000, that is quite a hit on our infrastructure. We'll see how things work out.
The problem with viewing it in the west, is it travels over lots of remote areas with only a few roads going in. If you are going to Oregon to view it, you don't have a lot of choices on which roads to take to get there. Same with Idaho and Wyoming. But once you get further east then it starts passing over large cities and would be a lot easier to see. Of course this time of year back east it's raining most every day.
