If I understand you correctly, your using the spray as soon as you open the black tank valve our just before. If thats what your doing, your doing it correctly.
Let the spray have every opportunity to emulsify the solids as you dump.
You might try this in addition:
If your traveling from campground A to campground B and have hookups at B, leave your black tank half or more full. The travel will agitate and emulsify all the solids in the tank and when you arrive at B, drain and use the spray too. You will be surprised at how well it completely empties the tank.
