THough the book, parts of which are written not by engineers but lawyers. Says To "Remove all loads" and that is also the BEST advice and a very good habit to get into.
Going from Generator to off. or from shore power to off. Should not harm the A/Cs or anything else.. Going from one source to the other (Shore to generator or generator to shore) without a 3 minute pause Can damage the A/C and weld the auto transfer switch. But going from ON to OFF,, Should not damage.
I stress however the qualifier SHOULD not...
That said I've done it many times without damage.
