Our 40' MH got us into many, many public campgrounds - national parks, state parks, national forests, etc. You're in the West so you really shouldn't have problems - unless state parks in California. However, there are many other beautiful options in California other than the neglected and cramped state parks. We've used California's national forests, BLM lands for boondocking, city and county parks.
Also, we've always used laundramats and never found 'gross' conditions. :)
